 DEVIN HANCE: Welcome to What the Tech. And today, we're going to find out where all these earbuds are coming from. [THEME MUSIC] In 2016, Apple unveiled the iPhone 7, the first iPhone without a headphone jack. SPEAKER 1: Now some people have asked why we would remove the analog headphone jack. DEVIN HANCE: This was a pretty big deal. At that same event, Apple also unveiled the AirPods-- SPEAKER 1: It is a breakthrough design. DEVIN HANCE: --wireless earbuds that connected seamlessly to your iPhone. Simply opened up the magnetic case, connected it to your iPhone through Bluetooth connectivity, and that's it. In response to Apple ditching the headphone jack, its competitors ridiculed them. IPhone users weren't too thrilled either. SPEAKER 2: Removing the headphone jack-- I do not understand this move. SPEAKER 3: So I disagree with this move. I think it's a big load of crap. DEVIN HANCE: But what Apple was doing was creating an entirely new market, and its AirPod sales validated this. AirPods earned them $6 billion in 2019 alone. So as you can imagine, Google, Samsung, and other smartphone makers followed suit, ditching their headphone jacks and making their own earbuds. Even Amazon has Echo Buds and Microsoft recently just announced the Surface Earbuds. So in a short amount of time, this market's become pretty competitive. Today, we have arguably two of the best earbuds on the market, Apple's AirPods Pro and Sony's WF 1000XM3s. [MUSIC PLAYING] Overall, after spending a few weeks with both, I'm really impressed with not only the sound quality, but the technology behind the noise cancellation. It's pretty impressive that you can get that experience from such a small device. The AirPods Pro are expensive earbuds. They retail at $250. And what you get is the case, of course, three different sized earbuds, and Lightning cord for charging. The Sonys are slightly cheaper. For $230, it comes with seven different sized earbuds, the case, and a USB-C charging cord. A plus with Sony's earbuds is you have two different materials to pick from. There's this foam type of material and a silicone material that seems a little bit more sweat resistant. On top of that, you have all the sizes to pick from-- small, medium, large. You can really customize it to your ear. When it comes to comfort for these, I definitely preferred the AirPods Pro. These are earbuds that I would definitely work out in. They sealed very easily. They were very comfortable. And the earbud itself was sweat resistant. The Sonys, even when I tried out the different sizes, just was a lot bulkier. I had to really twist it around to get a fit that felt right. So for the AirPods Pro, Apple stuck with their classic white case. It's slightly wider than the original AirPods, but still the same cool magnetic features. These headphones are not going to fall out. Sony's case is definitely the biggest wireless earbuds case out there. It feels super durable. I love the bronze and black coloring of it. As far as the magnetic strip on the inside, the headphones click right in. It's-- they're not going anywhere. So let's take a look at how to pair these earbuds. Connecting their AirPods Pro was super easy. I just pressed the button on the back of the case, and it connected immediately with my iPhone. Setting up the Sonys takes a little bit more time. You actually have to download a Headphones app to get started with this. It definitely takes a few seconds longer than just the quick pair with the AirPods Pro. I love that the AirPods Pro is a plug and play experience. It's very easy to toggle between your listening modes or adjust your volume. For the Sonys, there's so many different features that you can take control of, and this is definitely for the user that wants a more customizable experience. [BEEP] SPEAKER 4: Noise canceling. DEVIN HANCE: What really sets these earbuds apart is noise cancellation. It really reduces the unwanted sounds around you. And where I really noticed this the most was on subways or buses. So noise cancellation for both of these sounded really great. I really didn't think one overpowered the other or was better than the other. My podcasts, my music, it all sounded crisp and with very little interruption. But these headphones also offer transparency mode if you don't want to be muted from the world the whole time. It allows you to hear your surroundings. Let's say your train stop is coming up. You don't need to worry about tuning out everything at all times. SPEAKER 5: This is Point Street. DEVIN HANCE: One unique feature that the Sony earbuds offer is the adaptive sound control. Basically, your level of noise cancellation automatically adjusts based on your surroundings. So if you're in a subway, it'll crank the noise cancellation up. But if you're in a quiet room or studio, it'll pop that noise cancellation down. So I was pretty impressed with the adaptive sound control. It accurately was able to tell what surrounding I was in. The only thing to keep in mind, though, is that it's going to prompt you in your ear as it's switching modes. And I wasn't the biggest fan of that. I really couldn't pick which of the two sounded better. Both of them have exceptional sound, especially if you're coming from the original AirPods. But Sony has an advantage here, because you can go into the app and customize your EQ settings. You can select through different presets or create your own. One area where Sony definitely excels is the battery life. With the noise cancellation on, these earbuds will last you six full hours opposed to the AirPods Pro, which are 4 and 1/2 hours with noise cancellation on. Both of these cases, though, offer 24 hours of battery life before they need to be charged. So both of these earbuds really show how diverse the earbud market really is, especially because they're made for two totally different customers. The AirPods Pro are for more of the casual listener, those who want to plug and play, whereas the Sonys are for those who really want to customize their listening experience and have more options. It's really hard to recommend one over the other. It really depends on what you're looking for in an earbud. But after trying this and experiencing this, it's definitely a product that I don't want to go without. [MUSIC PLAYING]

After spending a few weeks with both, I'm really impressed with not only the sound quality but the technology behind the noise cancellation pretty impressive that you can get that experience from such a small device. For those who really want to customize their listening experience and have more options, it's really hard to recommend one over the other. It really depends on what you're looking for in an ear bud, but after trying this and experiencing this, it's definitely a product that I don't want to go without.

I have been an iPhone user since the 4s but I really love this phone. [ MUSIC ] I have been using the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10 plus for a few days now, and I love it. But, there are a few things that were hard to get used to. [ MUSIC ] The Note line is definitely known for having bigger phones and, you know, this is the Note 10 Plus so it's a little bit extra big. But they're for the power user. So, somebody that likes a lot of Battery that they can fit in. You've also got a bigger screen, so if you're big on streaming this is definitely for you. It also has just the hole punch camera that you can see. And I found that it was really easy to forget about it in a good way. So you get a lot more visual screen rather than having the notch break things up. And it works out a lot better for something where you want an edge edge kind of screen experience. It does have three buttons, you've got the power button and you've got the volume button. The only other sort of buttons are at the bottom there. These virtual buttons. It'll take you back are to home and the fact that they are on the bottom makes it really easy to navigate. I don't have the biggest hand so I really liked that they were in a pretty easily accessible spot and it definitely makes it easier than swiping around the whole screen. On the bottom you have no headphone jack You just have the charger and the speakers and the S Pen, which is something that they've really highlighted with the new Galaxy Note 10. On the back you have four different cameras which also blend into the phone really easily. I really like using them. So there are a lot of features packed into the Note 10 plus One of my favorites is this edge panel, so you can bring up different apps and you can actually change whatever apps. So if you really like using Google Maps, because you're always getting lost like I am, you can add that. You can add Messenger, you can do what you want. I also like having the weather. It makes it really accessible, you don't have to go through a bunch of menus to find it. For most of your other features you can get them through the drop- down menu And this has your basic airplane mode, but it also has night mode power saving mode, but it also has the power off button, which you can change but when you first use the phone if you try and press and hold the Power button, it actually launches fixed fee which is just really not that intuitive. I really don't wanna have to search to figure out how to turn my phone on. [ MUSIC ] Another thing I really love about this phone are the camera capabilities. So you've got your standard selfie camera in the front with 10 megapixels. You turn it over, you have your back camera with 12 megapixels. But it's also got things like a telephoto lens, wide angle lens, and an ultra- wide angle lens. So all of these features make it really easy to have more freedom when you are taking pictures. You get a really great shot. For video features you have got some cool stabilizing techniques. If you are running if you are biking and you want to take a video It will really stabilize it so you don't get so much of a shaky camera kinda effect if you don't want that. The only problem is that it can sometimes make your video a little blurry and the image quality can get lost, but it's still a really great feature to have. You've also got some really nice blurring polka effects for your videos. You can also use on photo. But you can actually slide them. So you can decide how much poker you want, which is good because if you set that bar too high, it looks really bad honestly and it looks very unnatural. But you can really tweak it and get the setting that you want. Some of my favorite features of the phone include its battery life. Honestly, when I was out and at 10 % and it lasted me the rest of the night, I fell in love with this phone. You can also change the battery settings. So they've got multiple battery optimization options. And if you put it on the highest battery saving one, it really strips out all of the parts of your phone, but you can still text people and have access to your phone so that it doesn't die. I also really loved bringing up the S Pen for selfie so and taking a group selfie and no one could really get everyone in the shot and managed to take a picture. Being able to just pull out the pen and press the button on it and take the photo really made everyone's night and we were able to get like the exact selfie that we wanted. I also love playing games on my phone but it's really annoying when you get notifications right as you're in the middle of something. With the game booster, you can really tweak your settings so you can turn notifications off really easily, You can also monitor the temperature, and it keeps your phone as cool as possible. You can really make sure that all of your settings are in line to either save your battery a little more, or to make sure you get the best graphics, and performance possible. And the game booster is really easy to use. Once you're in your gaming app, it's right there and you can press it to launch all of those settings. I'm a really big fan of the note- taking on the new Galaxy Note 10. What I love the most is that you can start writing even while the phone is locked. You just pull the S- pen out and start jotting something down, and it automatically launches your note- taking without having to unlock it to find your notes app. And once you do that it's saved, you can then convert your handwritten notes into text and I've written some really quick sloppy things down. And it's really good at reading them actually and converting them properly. And once they're converted, you can also search your notes you can upload them to docs and word, and it makes it really easy to turn just jotting a simple note down into something that's really handy later on. [ MUSIC ] As much as I love using this phone. I do think there are some things that Samsung could do a little bit better. The first of which is the facial [ INAUDIBLE ] Recognition. So for example, if I put on my glasses the phone wouldn't recognize that it was still me. Whereas for example, with Apple's Face ID I could wear sunglasses, glasses and it'll still unlock and register it is still in fact my face. And while I like the S Pen for note taking, I found that a lot of the gestures that come with it Just aren't that useful, they are not that intuitive you really have to kind of practice and get the hang of them and that just doesn't make me want to use them more. And i just didn't really feel like there were a lot of cases where I was close enough to my phone to be able to see it and look at it but so far away that I was using a gesture instead of just swiping. They use case just wasn't really there for me. Now it is open for developers to you know incorporate them in their apps but as of right now it doesn't seem like there's a lot of reason to use it. Lastly I really like that the screen is edge to edge but it also makes it easy to press something. Right at the edge of the screen with your palm or with your hand because it's a big phone and it makes it [ UNKNOWN ] to use where most of the times it's really nice phone and it's really smooth. But when that starts to happen often it gets really annoying. [ MUSIC ] [ MUSIC ] So that was the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10 plus. It starts at 1099. But you can get the regular 10 or 949. The biggest differences are the screen. The plus is 6. 8 inches. The 10 is 6. 3 for storage you can get 256 giga bites for both or you can get 512 for the plus and you also be optioned to add a more [ UNKNOWN ] plus. It has 12 gigs of ram compared to 8 with the regular ten has bigger battery as well and you have the depth vision Camera. [ MUSIC ] [ BLANK_AUDIO ]

Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Review: A Premiere Smartphone

The new Galaxy Note 10+ is the device for the power user, but should you get one?

Today we got to check out the new Nintendo Switch light and I really like it. [ SOUND ] This switch link feels really comfortable to play handheld. This feels really sturdy a lot sturdier than the regular switch because the joy cons don't come up. So don't feel like there's any kind of wobble. The buttons feel really nice. Everything feels good. It doesn't feel cheap. But it is a lot lighter so you're not going to feel that way that you do with the regular switch, which makes it easier to play handheld for a longer tab. The new switch light has a slightly smaller screen but I honestly didn't notice I found that it still has a really great screen size, you're going to be able to see your games really well. So Paxson all of the same brightness and colors of the flagships which does [ MUSIC ] The new switch light has an actual D pad whereas the flagships which has the four buttons that you can change direction with, I really liked having the actual D pad for some platforms and fighting games really makes using it a lot better. [ MUSIC ] All the internal hardware is the same, so you're getting the same power in a much smaller device. The only difference of course, is that you will have to play handheld. You can't actually put it on your TV at all, but you're getting the same types of specs that you normally would on the flagship switch. You have your SD card for expanded memory. It also has the new updated battery which is on the new switch model that just came out as well. The new Switch Lite comes in three colors, you've got turquoise like this one, you also have yellow, and grey. They all come in a really nice matte finish, it's great for texture, you're not gonna get fingerprints on them. But you also get these vibrant colors. The new Switch Lite comes out September 20th and it sells for $ 199 compared to the flagship Switch at $ 299. I'm really excited to see it out in the wild. [ MUSIC ] [ BLANK_AUDIO ]

Nintendo Switch Lite Review: Less Is More

The new Nintendo Switch Lite is a smaller handheld that doesn't allow gaming on your television but for $199 it's still a great device with a beautiful design.

Welcome to what the tech we got to spend some time with the latest ebike from juiced, it's called Scorpion and we had a great time writing it. As you can immediately see this does not look like a traditional bank. It's designed more like a moped motorcycle. It'll definitely draw lots of looks from bystanders. The ride is really smooth. If you know how to ride a bike, you probably won't have too hard of a time getting a handle on this .>> Once you start pedaling, the motor kicks in to give you a nice boost and it makes the bike feel weightless. The throttle will let you control how fast or slow you go and the brakes are pretty much the same as you'd have on a standard bike. So there's really not a steep learning curve. [ MUSIC ] [ MUSIC ] The Scorpion has a 750 watt motor which is more powerful compared to lots of other eBikes. It also has a 45 mile range. So if you're worried at all about getting to work and back, don't be. We took the bike out for several hours a day and didn't need to charge it once. This thing moves pretty fast. You'll easily be speeding past other riders. It advertises that it goes up to 28 miles an hour but on most settings I got up to 25, 26 max. It also has a few different speed settings. One through three give you varying degrees of motor assistance as you pedal. R will give you the most power, followed by S. And then there's zero, which basically means that you're in control of making the bike move. Then Scepter frame allows you to easily get on and off the bike. I'm only 5'2 so I was pretty worried that it might be too big for me. But I had no problem. It's a very comfortable ride with front and rear suspension cushion seat. So you basically feel like you're riding motorcycle. Sure the bike is heavy, but when you're writing, you don't notice it too much because of that throttle on that motor. We tested the scorpion in New York City where it's really convenient to cycle instead of drive, take a cab or take the train, but you also have to think about whether. Fit in a bike rack, you can get it up the stairs or even fit it into an apartment. The e- bike market is something of the Wild West right now. And there are lots of great bikes out there at different price points. The Scorpion ships Spring of 2020. And it's available for preorder now for 2200 Hundred dollars. [ MUSIC ] [ BLANK_AUDIO ]

Welcome to What The Tech, I'm Lisa Marie, and we are checking out this very colorful Cotopaxi bag. [ MUSIC ] For my latest trip, I used this Cotopaxi bag as my carry on luggage. And while it served me pretty well I did have some issues with it. First off, you're going to notice it's really colorful. I personally was not a big fan of that they do have some options, but they're all pretty colorful. So it's up to you if that's something that you're interested in. That said their colors come from the fact that they use these recycled materials And leftover products to put the bags together which is really nice. Cotopaxi his whole brand is gear for good. And part of that is making sure all of these fabrics and materials are used, which is great, but personally, I could do without the color. [ SOUND ] You're probably going to keep most of your things in this main compartment. It opens up just like a regular suitcase, which is really nice, The largest pack of storage I use for things like clothes, tops, bottoms, socks, all of that. And then I would use these smaller compartments for things like chargers and jewelry. It's really nice because it keeps things neat and separate so you're not going through all of your shorts to find your charger. When you go into this pocket, I really like it to put an extra pair of shoes. Or things like my hair brush or makeup or my curling iron. It offers enough space for those things without having to put it in between your clothes. And looking at how How you can store your tack? It has this compartment and it offers some tatted storage for your laptop. Since it has its separate zipper as well, you can take your laptop out through security really easily or if you want to pull it out while you're on the plane and you don't want to have to go through all of your things. It's really convenient. It has a separate pocket as well. You can put your charger, I put my iPad in there because it was small enough It lays flat without taking up more room than it needs to. You also have this smaller pocket in the front. I loved it because it was good for a small notebook or pens and pencils that I like to have it It's also great if you wanna keep your passport or your wallet there and just have really easy access to it. Since it's right in the front. You have this strap which comes in a little bit higher and you have this one which is more secure and kind of secures it to your waist. You also have these handles so you can pick it up with one arm. And it's on the top, it's in both sides. But if it's too heavy for your back, then it might be too heavy to carry with one arm. The materials are also really durable, it's water resistant, and it's good for something like for a hike. Cotopaxi doesn't just make travel bags that also makes bag for outdoor activities, and it has lots of straps, You can connect your water bottle, or anything else to a carabiner And hook it onto all of the straps. They're all over the bag, so you can do it in whatever way is most convenient to you. It also meant that I wasn't afraid to check it, and when I did finally have to spot it in a sea of other suitcases, I had no problem figuring out that this was my bag. [ MUSIC ] I thought the Cotopaxi bag would be a lot more comfortable than it was. I went away for about five days, and I realized that I was pushing it. This is a bag for a two, three day trip, tops. More than that, and you're going to have a sore back the next day. I know that when I was going through the airport, I just felt like this is why suitcases have wheels. This comes at $ 180 if you really want to buy into that gear for good model, and you want to support them because you believe in the idea of reusing fabrics and materials, which is Great, then this is a good bag, but it is $ 180 and for that I don't think this Cotopaxi bag stands out. Welcome to what the tech today we're trying at the new solo beats Pro. [ MUSIC ] I had a great time trying these out. I love a good pair of bluetooth headphones. They're out now they cost $ 300 and they come in six different colors. In the box you get the [ UNKNOWN ] of course, you also get the charger, a clip which is nice if you wanna put it on your backpack. And you get this case, it's a fabric case and it definitely doesn't offer much in the way of protection but it's nice if you wanna store [ UNKNOWN ]. Over here it looks like an ordinary side of your headphones but you've actually got three different buttons The center button has a lot of features you could pause and play just by pressing it. You could also answer and hang up calls but if you press place you can skip to the next song. You can press three times to go back. If you press top over here you can also raise your volume and by pressing the bottom you can lower your volume. The headphones also come with this H1 chip so if you have IPhone and you've ever used air pods for example, a window automatically appears rather than having to go into your settings, and Bluetooth to find that phones. It's just a nice added feature. The new beats also have this active noise cancellation tech, which is one of my favorite features. Pictures of them by far. You really notice the difference when you're on the subway and you can drown all of the noise out. And if you've been listening with the noise cancellation on, you don't realize just how much of a difference it makes until you use that button to toggle it off and let me Tell you, it makes a big difference. Even with the noise cancellation on, it lasts for 22 hours, which is really nice for a pair of Bluetooth headphones. But if you turn the noise cancellation off, you get 40 hours out of them. It also charges really fast. You can charge it for just ten minutes, and you'll get three hours of audio based on that charge. I've been using these for about a week now, and I found them to be really comfortable. The cushion against your ears feels really nice. It also has a really nice cushion at the top for your head. When you do wear glasses, I've noticed that it's not great because it presses up against your ear and your head. But, in general, it does the best that it can. I even really liked using them at the gym. They're sweat resistant, and I didn't worry about them falling off if I was running. If you're really active and run a lot or maybe you're playing basketball or soccer you might want something like the Powerbeats Pro which wrap around your ear. Apple's Beats by Dre introduced its new Solo Pro wireless headphones for $300. It's pricier than most rival headphones, but it comes with active noise-canceling technology.

[GREEN HILL ZONE PLAYING] So today we're playing the Sega Genesis Mini. It's a remake on the classic console that came out in 1989. 16-bit graphic technology. The most advanced video game system in the universe. The Sega Genesis was released in North America in 1989 and sold 30 million units. At the time, it was Nintendo's biggest competitor. Even though the Sega Genesis Mini is definitely a lot smaller than its original counterpart, they tried to stay true to the original design. You've got the same buttons. You've got the reset button, which actually works. And they've got the power button, which is pretty important. But they also added some details like the volume button. It doesn't actually work, because there's no actual place to put your headphones, but it just shows that they really tried to stay true to the original design. You've got the same vents, and it all really looks similar. Just a little bit smaller. The new 16-bit console comes with 42 games. It's actually twice as many as the SNES has came out with, which was its direct competitor when they were both actually on the market, and they're the same price. Some of the games include Sonic, Street Fighter. You've got Mega Man, and it also has two new games to the system, which are Darius and Tetris. If you're trying to figure out which of the 42 games to play, there's a number of ways that you can actually list them. One is alphabetically, which is pretty simple. Or by genre, you can go by number of players, since you can play with one or two players. You can also go by release date if you want to play in the order they came out in. You can also view the games as if they were on a shelf. It's a really cool look, but it's not the most useful. There's also a fun Easter egg if you change the language to Japanese. It changes the cover art to the ones that were released in Japan, and the interface also gets a different look. You've also got some options for how you play. You can stick to the original 4:3, ratio or you can stretch it out to 16:9, which is what most movies are now. And if you do stick to 4:3, you can also change with the background on the side looks like. You can just stick to black panels on the side or you can have Sonic in this stereo system, or a pixel background. It also has a CRT filter, which is supposed to mimic the look of old TVs, but it ends up mostly just looking darker and it doesn't always complement the games very well, so you might just want to stick to HD. I definitely wasn't a big fan of the controller. Definitely very loud and clicky, and it feels like you've got a long way to go before you actually trigger the button. There might have been some slight latency, but nothing too crazy. I had a lot of fun playing the Sega Genesis Mini. It's really great, especially for someone like me. These games came just before my time, so I didn't get to play them growing up. If you're someone like me who's always been curious about the games that came before what you play now or if you grew up loving these games, it's probably something you want to pick up. It's not cheap, but for 42 games, it's a decent deal.
